Long few days.

This weekend has been good and bad. I think on the whole, the good outweighed the bad, so I’ll take it. Saturday was a quiet day at home. I don’t think I went outside all day. My pain levels were really high, so I did a few more rows on the rainbow blanket, messed about on Ravelry and just took it easy. Eldest was doing homework and Youngest was recovering from her trip away. There was rugby on TV all day; The Lion’s second Test, Super Rugby and Rugby 7’s world cup! Lots to keep S happy and that was the day gone. We did make a  slow roast pork shoulder, with nice crisp crackling, roast potatoes and carrots for dinner though, which was lovely, and there was plenty enough of the pork leftover for lunch on Sunday.

Sunday I decided to make up for such a dull day, and after our lunch of cold pork, chips and salad, we went off to the cinema to see Despicable Me 2. We all really enjoyed it, it was lovely to see Eldest, who is 14 now, laughing and having fun along with everyone else. I thought she might be “too cool” for that, but I was happy to be proved wrong. Pancakes for supper/tea made a special end to the day. Not much time for crafting, but I did another couple of rows on the blanket.

Monday was back to school, which means a 6am alarm so Eldest can get to the bus station for 7.30am. I find it hard to get going in the mornings, as much as I love them, it takes awhile for the medication I take at night to work out of my system and let me wake up, so I always struggle with the early start. For most of the day S was practising for his Grade 8 acoustic guitar exam that is on Sunday, so I left him be and took myself up to my art desk and tried a few different things, I did an impressionist style painting (at least that’s what I was aiming for) a pyrography piece, and I looked through my photography archive to find some more ideas for paintings. The art works aren’t quite finished yet, (when they are, I put some pics up) because I tried to move position and my back muscles spasmed. It happens fairly frequently, and more often than not, the muscles will relax on their own within an hour. Not so last night. I had to get S to help me get ready for bed and then took enough meds to knock me out for the night in the hope that the spasm would relax as I slept.

It took me hours to properly wake up this morning, long after the girls had gone to school. I do remember waking up enough to say goodbye, but then I was asleep again. The spasm had relaxed, but my pain levels were (are) still really high, so it’s been another dull day of laying on the sofa. I did dig out the jumper I’m knitting and do a few rows on that, but it takes more concentration than I can muster right now, so I’m writing this blog instead. I hope it makes sense, it’s hard to be coherent with this amount of painkiller in me.

Here’s the jumper I’m knitting;

It’s a pattern called St Brigid from Alice Starmore’s Aran knitting. I fell in love with the pattern and looked at the book every time we went to Waterstones. S got me the book for Christmas and I used the main knot in the huge afghan I knit (If you’re on Rav you can see that here) When the afghan was finally finished I started on the jumper, but it got put down in April in favor of a simple project to do while visiting my Grandmother in hospital. She’s been home for a couple of weeks now, and I’ve been meaning to get back to it, but I’ve only just around to picking it back up. IT’s still got a long way to go.
